Chemistry Shortcut Tricks : – ExamsRoad.com is focused on providing students the best and easy way of learning. So for that we have started ExamsRoad Memory Booster Series (EMBS). In this we will be providing simple and short way of learning Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics & Biology.
Today in EMBS we will learn Chemistry Periodic Table Shortcut Tricks. In this we will get to know the short way of learning elements of S-Block, P-Block, D-Block & F-Block.
We will be using mnemonics for creating easy way of memorizing the topic. The strategy to recite the mnemonics is :-
The mnemonics are framed using letters of elements in the same sequence as they occur in the periodic table.
Symbols are highlighted in bold tatters. Do not read the letters in bracket.
Phonetics have also been at various places. C may be replaced by K, G with J, I with EA & O with U etc
S-BLOCK ELEMENT – Periodic Table Shortcut Tricks
The S-block consists of two groups which have identical physical and chemical properties.
Group 1 contains Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Ru), Caesium (Cs), and Francium (Fr). Jus take the intials and we get the mnemonic as LiNa Ki Ruby Cse Friendship hai
Group 2 is known as alkaline earth metals. It includes Beryllium (Be), Magnesium (Mg), Calcium (Ca), Strontium (Sr), Barium (Br), and Radium (Ra). Mnemonic as: Beta Mange Car Scooter Baap rone se Raazi
Li, Na, K, Ru,Cs,Fr

P-BLOCK ELEMENT – Periodic Table Shortcut Tricks
This block contains non-metal, semi-metal and poor metals. P-BLOCK element the last six group of the periodic table(group 13 to 18) have their own valence electron.
GROUP 13 is known as Boron group and it consist of Boron(B),Aluminium(Al),Gallium (Ga),Indium(In),and Thallium(Ti).
MNEMONIC for this group: B A G I T
Group 14 consist of Carbon(C),Silicon(Si),Germanium (Ge),Tin(Sn),and lead(Pb)and known as carbon group
MNEMONIC for this group: Chemistry Sir Gives Sanki Problems
Group 15 includes Nitrogen(N),Phosphorus(P),Arsenic(As),Antimony(Sb),and Bismuth(Bi) and known as nitrogen group.
MNEMONIC for this group: Nahi Pasand Aise Sab Bhai
GROUP 16 contains Oxygen(O) sulphur (S), Selenium(S), Tellurium(Te), and Polonium(Po) and are these are known as oxygen group.
MNEMONIC for this group: Oh! Style Se Tel Polish
Group 17 Fluorine (F), Chlorine(Cl),Bromine(Br),Iodine(I),and Astatine(At) and these groups are known as Halogens.
MNEMONIC for this group: Fir Call Kar Bahaar AayI Aunty
Group 18 consist of Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), and Radon (Rn) and known group of noble gasses except Helium.
MNEMONIC for this Group: He Never Arrived; Kara Xero Run pe Out

End with ine (are rhythmic)
He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, Rn
D-BLOCK ELEMENT – Periodic Table Shortcut Tricks
D-BLOCK contains elements of group 3 to 12 and group 3 to 12 are known as transitional elements, whereas and group 12 elements are known as post-transitional elements and have completely filled sub-shell.
The first row in the D-block denotes the elements with period 4. These are Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn. As they are ten in total and hence we further divide them in two groups. The first part is Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn and the second one includes Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn.
The first should better me mugged up as Scandium saw Titanic in Vettri Chrompet Theatre with Manganese. Now, to memorize the second part is an arduous task. So we are actually trying to learn the elements Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn. We read these symbols as Feh Co Nee Ku Zinc – FeCo NiCu Zn. Just assume that Fe, Co and Ni, Cu are two couples while Zn is still a bachelor. The chief point to be noted here is that there are chances of messing up Cobalt (Co) with Copper (Cu). So keep a note of that!
This period is quite entertaining. Just imagine it to be a story of two friends Y and Z i.e. Yttrium and Zed/Zee Zirconium respectively. So, Y and Z are two mates who say Namba (Nb) Teacher (Tc) R-square(Ru,Rh)” (Our teacher R-square). And henceforth, they dance and sing on music numbers from CD- Padi(Pd) Aaadi(Ag) Cd.
Thus, the crux to remember period 5 is
Y and Z – two friends – say “Namba Teacher R-square” – and Padi, Aadi to a Cd.
The elements covered under this category include Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au and Hg.
The simplest way to memorize this is to consider them in reverse order and then we try to associate them with some related words. Let’s see how we do this-
Hg – Mercury – Marie – This is a reputed brand of biscuit in India.
W – Tungsten – Wandhichu or Vandhichu- which implies “to come” or “to get affected with”
“Ta – Tantalum – Theriyuma – meaning “do you know”?
Just try to imagine that we are conversing with the element Hafnuim, then our words would be
which decodes to “Hey hafnium, did you know that Irridium got a bad itch after eating Marie Gold Platinum biscuits ?”
Last but not the least, do not ignore the first element of the atomic periodic table which is also the leading element of Lanthanides i.e. Lanthanum.
Period 7 contains the radioactive elements only. D-block elements that come under it are Actinium (Ac), Rutherfordium (Rf), Dubnium (Db), Seaborgium (Sg), Bohrium (Bh), Hassium (Hs), Meitnerium (Mt), and Darmstadtium (Ds).
Mnemonic for Period 7: Ak(c)ele R(f) D(b) S(g)harma ki B(h)ook mein H(s)ain Maths ke Difficult sawaal.

F-BLOCK ELEMENT – Periodic Table Shortcut Tricks
F-block elements are also termed as inner transition elements. They can be further divided into Lanthanides and Actinides. Lanthanides include Cerium (Ce), Praseodymium (Pr), Neodymium (Nd), Promethium (Pm), Samarium (Sm), Europium (Eu), Gadolinium (Gd), Terbium (Tb), Dysprosium (Dy), Holmium (Ho), Erbium (Er), Thulium (Tm), Ytterbium (Yb) and Lutetium (Lu). We can mug them up in a very interesting way by dividing them in three parts:
